So my long runs are up to 8 miles and my speedwork is up to 4 x 800's (or twice around the track) with a 400 recovery. I've done most of the program each week and I definitely feel stronger, but I never stretch so my muscles are short, and I've given up yoga entirely because I'm afraid that at this point it will make my muscles too sore to do my runs, and I'm still always a little reluctant to lace up my shoes and get out there bacause it's still a little hard.
This Saturday our long run is going to be the actual Pike's Peek course, which is great. Except that we have to do it at 6:30 am, which sucks. And this week I'm in Florida cobbling together my runs on the ever-developing streets of Mexico Beach, in breezy, 70 degree, humid weather. (If you wait past 8 am, you're screwed.)
I'll say this, it's amazing to to take four months and change your body--not out of vanity, or to fit into a teeny dress, or to eat an extra quesadilla, but just for the athleticism of it. I can run 8 miles, and I may be miserable the whole time but I can do it. God bless youth, free time and encouragement.
